This particular headboard project uses small narrow doors, most likely from an old closet or pantry. They used three doors that are all the same size, style and shape to create one large and tall headboard. They also added a couple of small sized pillars on either end of the headboard to anchor the design instead of it just being left with the rectangular edges. It almost adds a Roman or Greek feel to the bedroom making it feel very luxurious and romantic. The doors look as though they were sanded and then painted using an antiquing method of painting. Often times, people will use chalk paint, which has more of a matte finish than a satin or glossy finish, this also helps to keep the project very antique looking.
The paint can be applied and then sanding can happen again to rough up the appearance of the piece. Then some black or brown paint can be added on top in random areas to create the look of naturally formed scuffs and blemishes.
